Tristan didn't know whether to feel disappointed or relieved his suspicion about Cody had been proved to be correct. Seeing him in his dream made it clear Cody was definitely involved. He tried to feel anger towards the human, but all he felt was guilt at driving him to do this. He just wished he knew how Cody had gained such powers.

Mac and Alastor still slept and Tristan eased his way out from between them, needing a little time on his own to gather his thoughts.

"Where are you going?" Mac asked, as Tristan reached the door. "Are you okay?"

Tristan nodded numbly and gestured for Mac to be quiet, lest he wake Alastor too. He hoped Mac would go back to sleep, but his angel could clearly tell something was wrong and he followed Tristan into the living room.

Mac sat Tristan down on the sofa and went to make them each a coffee. "What is it?" he asked as he passed Tristan a steaming mug. "And don't try fobbing me off."

Tristan gave a small smile. Mac knew him so well. "It's Cody."

Mac sipped on his coffee and waited for Tristan to continue.

"He's the one behind my dreams," Tristan explained.

"Dreams? I thought it was just the one."

Tristan couldn't meet Mac's eye. "No, I just had another one. It wasn't quite as bad as the first, but neither were particularly pleasant."

"And you think Cody might be behind them?"

"He is."

"Cody's a human," Mac pointed out. "He doesn't have that sort of power."

Tristan nodded his agreement. "He must have some sort of help."

"What makes you so sure he's behind them?"

"I just saw him in my dream," Tristan explained. "And I…"

"What?" Mac prompted as Tristan's voice trailed off.

"I visited him in the Underworld."

Mac put his coffee aside and folded his arms across his chest. "When was this?"

"Yesterday."

"And you kept this from me?"

Tristan took a drink of his coffee to avoid looking Mac in the eye. "I knew you wouldn't approve."

"Damn right. I can't believe you and Alastor didn't tell me."

"Alastor doesn't know I went down there," Tristan clarified. "I knew he'd be as pissed off as you."

Tristan could tell Mac was highly annoyed with him. His wings, mostly invisible when he was on Earth, had appeared with his loss of control and they were a dark grey, a sure sign of his anger.

"Why did you do something so stupid as to go down there without Alastor to protect you?"

Tristan's own temper flared at the reprimand. "I'm not a child. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself. I wanted to check on Cody, and I did. I don't have to report my every move to the two of you."

"You could have been trapped down there, taken prisoner or tortured."

"But I wasn't."

"That's not the point. And Alastor would agree with me."

Tristan got up from his seat and stalked across the room. "Of course he would. You both take sides against me when it comes to letting me make my own decisions. The two of you treat me like a child and it's starting to piss me off.
